Three measures, one after the other.
Three public measures, awarded in sequence, took Herobots from a research result to a company with its own software product and, now, its own production capability. Campania Startup 2020, funded under POR FESR Campania 2014/2020, established the company and funded the first industrialisation of the simulation engine. Campania Startup 2023 industrialised the software suite. STEP II, recently awarded, funds the construction of a production site for the hardware and the industrialisation of the control room.
THE CHALLENGE
Research results are not a product.
A university spin-off starts with algorithms that work in a paper and tools that work on one laptop. Getting from there to something a customer can buy is three different jobs: incorporating the company and moving the technology out of the university; turning separate research tools into one piece of software that survives being reopened on someone else's machine; and bringing the manufacturing and qualification of the core hardware in-house, so that delivery does not depend on a supplier's queue.
HEROBOTS IN THE PROJECT
Campania Startup 2020 · the company
Through the Campania Startup 2020 measure, funded under POR FESR Campania 2014/2020, Herobots was formally established as an innovative startup in 2021 and began the technology transfer of the research results behind it. The measure funded the first industrialisation of our proprietary simulation engine, making it usable as an advanced software asset for simulation, control and virtual reality in complex, high-reliability contexts. Without this step there is no company.
Campania Startup 2023 · the software
The second measure industrialised the company's software. HeroSuite started as a collection of separate research tools: a simulation solver, a workspace analyser, a parameter identification routine, a design assistant. Each worked on its own, with its own input format and its own way of showing results. The project industrialised the back end of every tool, standardised how they exchange data, and brought all six under a single graphical interface, then validated the suite against two physical test rigs built inside the project.
STEP II · the factory
The third measure funds the step Herobots has not taken yet: a production site. STEP II pays for the in-house manufacturing and qualification of the core hardware, with composite additive manufacturing, 3D metrology and a PCB electronics line, and for the industrialisation of the control room, with HPC workstations and haptic teleoperation for virtual commissioning. What is built in the lab today gets produced, measured and commissioned in-house tomorrow.
